I'm happy to share that the ebook version of The Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching is now available! Visit your favorite online retailer to purchase a copy, and if you don't have a favorite, see Norton's listing for the book for options. The paperback version is still on track for a late September release, but you can dive into the digital version of the book right now. It is packed with ideas and inspiration for teaching with, without, and about generative AI, and my co-authors Annette Vee and Marc Watkins and I are eager to get it in the hands of readers--and to hear what y'all think of the book! To celebrate the launch of the book, we have several things happening... Our publisher, W.W. Norton, is hosting a virtual launch party for the book next week on Wednesday, July 8th, at 1:30pm Central. Annette and Marc and I will be there to introduce the book, share our favorite parts, and take questions. The launch party is free, and you can register for it here. Perusall is running an online book club from July 6th to August 2nd. They'll have the ebook available on their social annotation platform, and we'll have a reading plan for the four weeks. You'll be able to connect with fellow readers (and the authors!) through comments and questions anchored in the text itself. More info and registration can be found here. This week's episode of my Intentional Teaching podcast features an interview with the author team (Annette, Marc, and me) with special guest interviewer Stacey Johnson! Stacey is a friend and colleague and experienced podcast host. She asks really great questions! You can listen here or search for "Intentional Teaching" in your podcast app. For more interviews with the authors, check out our appearances on the Tea for Teaching podcast, the Future Trends Forum, and (just last week!) the Social Learning Amplified podcast from Perusall hosted by Eric Mazur! Finally, if you have adopted a Norton textbook in one of your courses, you may qualify for a free digital copy of the new book. Please inquire with your local Norton representative. And if you would like to order multiple copies for a campus reading group or some other faculty development effort, on orders of 10 or more print copies, Norton offers 50% off the list price and free domestic shipping. (Such orders must be on a nonreturnable basis.) To take advantage of this offer, contact Peter Wentz at pwentz@wwnorton.com with subject line “Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching.” |
Welcome to the Intentional Teaching newsletter! I'm Derek Bruff, educator and author. The name of this newsletter is a reminder that we should be intentional in how we teach, but also in how we develop as teachers over time. I hope this newsletter will be a valuable part of your professional development as an educator.
The Future of AI-Aware Teaching My Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching co-authors Annette Vee and Marc Watkins and I had the good fortune to be guests on Bryan Alexander's Future Trends Forum the other week. If you missed the live show, the recording is now available on Bryan's YouTube channel. That recording doesn't include the text chat--which was a firehose!--but you'll get to hear us weigh in on What we mean by "AI-aware" teaching, AI as an arrival technology (that is, it just showed up...
My wife and I took a proper vacation last week--kid-free, for the first time in three years! Between that and the Juneteenth holiday, this newsletter didn't go out last week. But I did drop a new podcast episode last Tuesday, so here's a special Monday edition of the newsletter to get the word out about that new episode. Study Hall Is Back! Last year I tried a new podcast episode format in which I invite three guests on the show to discuss recent studies on teaching and learning in higher ed....
How to Grade: Alternative Models for the College Classroom I have more book news to share! Y'all know I'm a co-author on The Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching coming out this summer. I had such a great experience writing that book with Annette Vee and Marc Watkins that when Emily Donahoe reached out to see if might be interested in collaborating with her on a new book about grading, I said most definitely. The book's working title is How to Grade: Alternative Models for the College Classroom,...
