Light bulb moments from 100 episodes of Intentional Teaching

It's been a busy week around here, so I'll keep this newsletter short and sweet!

Four years ago when I launched the Intentional Teaching podcast, I used three digits to label my audio files. 001, 002, and so on. Well, this week I earned that hundreds digit!

I'm happy to share the 100th episode of Intentional Teaching. This one's a clip show, but hopefully better than 1980s sitcom clip shows, which were always a little disappointing for regular fans. In my 100th episode, I share some of the light bulb moments I've had while interviewing guests for the show through interview clips and my thoughts on why those moments continue to inform my work as an educational developer. Here's a spoiler / not-spoiler: I include clips from episodes 2, 5, 7, 11, 41, 51, 58, 68, 69, 71, and 77!

I'm excited to reach this milestone, and I'm deeply grateful to all my guests (165 and counting!) and listeners for making this show possible. I learn so much from my guests, and I'm thrilled to know that folks out there appreciate the interviews and the show. Thanks especially to the listeners who contribute $3 a month to cover software and hosting costs for the show! If you'd like to help out similarly, visit my Patreon page.

So here's to the next 100 episodes? I can't promise that, but I'm not planning to slow down in the near future. I have eight interviews already recorded for upcoming episodes, and I look forward to sharing those with you.

You can listen to the 100th episode of Intentional Teaching here, or search for "Intentional Teaching" in your podcast app.

This week included a quick trip to New York City to share a few thoughts on AI-aware teaching with the editors at W. W. Norton. During their annual editors retreat, they spent some time thinking about AI, how its changing higher education, and what that means for a textbook publisher like Norton. All the editors had read The Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching, and it was really fun to hear their thoughts on the book. These are folks who interact regularly with faculty around their teaching, as...

I'm back from my birthday trip to Costa Rica! I visited the Sarapiqui region on the Caribbean side of the country, and I spent the whole time birdwatching. The birding was amazing, and I picked up 71 lifers while I was there! I saw hummingbirds, herons, trogons, kingfishers, toucans, parrots, manakins, flycatchers, and more. I had a couple of really fantastic guides who helped me find a lot of those birds, and I visited some really fantastic nature preserves while I was there. You can see the...

As I type this, I'm on a plane to Costa Rica for a long weekend of birdwatching as a treat to myself for turning 50. I'm going to keep this edition of the newsletter short and sweet, but you should plan on some photos of colorful birds in next week's edition! It's Publication Week! My new book, The Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching, co-authored with Annette Vee and Marc Watkins, is now available as a paperback! I received my author copy last week, and I've already heard reports from...
